The official Presidential Hand-Over Ceremony, which was sponsored by Advantage Communications, took place on Friday 18th January in the Embassy Bar and Grill Restaurant and saw Joe McCann take up the office of Sligo Chamber President.
In his address, Joe thanked Sligo Chamber Council for his election and praised outgoing President Tony Wehrly for his “flair and passion” while conducting Chamber work during 2007, commenting that Tony will be “a hard act to follow”.
Joe is delighted to accept this role and believes Sligo Chamber has a very important role to play in the business community, particularly when lobbying. High on the agenda again this year is parking. Joe, like his predecessor Tony, considers parking as one of the biggest single problems facing Sligo at the moment. In his acceptance speech, the incoming President also highlighted the importance of getting firm commitment for the Western Rail Corridor to Sligo and lobbying against the down-grading of services in Sligo General Hospital.
In welcoming the appointment of the new President, Joe McCann, Sligo Chamber CEO Rebecca Stevens highlighted the efforts of the last year’s President Tony Wehrly, commenting that “it was a pleasure to work with Tony in 2007 and I look forward to working with Joe over the coming year”.
