The highlight of Sligo Chamber’s Social Calendar, the 2007 Annual Dinner Dance sponsored by Glenman Corporation, took place on Friday 5th October in the Sligo Park Hotel with 300 people in attendance.
The evening ran very smoothly with the welcome address and main official proceedings before the meal. The speeches were from the Mayor of Sligo, Cllr. Jonathan McGoldrick, the President of Sligo Chamber, Mr. Tony Wehrly and the Guest Speaker, Mr. Pat McCann, CEO Quality Comfort Hotels.
Pat was a very entertaining speaker and gave some great insights into his own career and route to success from the early days in the hotel business in 1969 with Ryan Hotels plc., to recently becoming Promoter and Chief Executive of Dalata Ltd (t/a Quality and Comfort Hotels). Dalata Ltd currently operates eleven properties in Ireland, with over 1,500 rooms and approximately 550 employees and has ambitious development plans and will expand its Irish operation and enter the UK market in the very near future.
Shortly after the meal, Mr. Dermot Fallon, Director of Castle Dargan, was awarded The Business Person of the Year 2006. Presented by Glenman Corporation, the main sponsor for the evening, this award is Sligo Chamber’s annual salute to a business person who makes a significant contribution to Sligo’s economic development in the given year.
President of Sligo Chamber, Tony Wehrly, commented that “Dermot Fallon’s Castle Dargan is a significant addition to Sligo’s thriving hospitality industry. It is a testament to the type of business man he is and I am delighted to see a local person being recognised for his contribution to Sligo and its economy”.
The guests on the evening were very charitable and contributed generously to the chosen charities, Sligo Hospital Oncology service via S.H.O.U.T. and People in Need. Dancing took place into the small hours to the lively music of Take4 |
